In 2016 our club’s executive board created a scholarship fund, the Santa Rosa Democratic Club Educational Scholarship. In 2017, after the passing of Liz Basile, we changed the name to the Elizabeth Basile Educational Scholarship Fund, named in honor of the retired Educator and a former President of our Santa Rosa Democratic Club. Liz Basile was one of the most ardent and passionate Democratic activists in our county.
Her daughters gave our club $1,000 which established the fund, and the 50/50 Raffle has funded that scholarship in her name. This scholarship is awarded to a young person who is attending an upper division institution or a graduate school. Since 2016, we have awarded eight $500 scholarships.
Our scholarship recipients include two bachelor degrees from UC Berkeley, one masters degree from Columbia University, one masters degree from University of San Francisco, one bachelor degree from American University in Washington, DC , one bachelor degree from California State University at Northridge., and two currently pursuing bachelor degrees, one at Sonoma State University, and the other at UC Berkeley. Outstanding students and outstanding citizens who continue to give to their communities.
If you are interested in donating to the Elizabeth Basile Educational Scholarship Fund, please send a check made out to SRDC, note on the memo line Scholarship Fund, and mail to Santa Rosa Democratic Club, PO Box 32, Santa Rosa, CA 95402. Thank you.
